Tournament Rules and RemindersSkills Competition will consist of a free-throw shooter (1), a speed dribbler (2), team lay-ups, and NBA 2-Ball (2). Different players should participate in each event. 1. No team is allowed to play ZONE DEFENSE or DOUBLE TEAM outside of the key. First offense is a warning, second will be a technical foul call resulting in a free throw. Offensive team retains possession after free throw. 2. All teams must have 10 players before the start of the second shift. If you are short players, you can still play the game but you cannot get credit for the win. You will however have your score counted incase a tie-breaker situation arises. If a team has 9 players because some players have fouled out, the opposing coach gets to select who double-shifts. 3. A player cannot remain in the opponents' key for more than 5 consecutive seconds, while his/her team is in control of the ball without shooting. To clear out of the key, both feet must be placed on the floor outside the key. 4. Illegal use of hands (reaching-in) will be penalized. Remind players they should not make contact with a ball handlers' torso, arms, etc. when attempting to steal the ball. 5. Players and coaches should remember to be good sports. For this tournament, no player(s) or coach should address the opposing team in an openly critical manner. Examples include yelling "shot" or chanting during free throws. Language and attitudes of players will also be closely monitored by the officials. 6. A game will consist of ten (10) 4-minutes shifts with a one-minute half time. Overtime will consist of a 4-minute period in which any player can participate. If a second overtime is required, double-shifting rules will be in effect. 7. The clock will stop on all free throws during the game. For all dead balls, a continuous clock will be used. If the game is close (within 10 points) in the final shift, the clock will stop on all whistles under 2 minutes. 8. Each team will have three (3) time-outs per game and can only use them during a dead ball situation or when they have possession. 9. No member of a Division I team is allowed to play on a Division II team. If the Division II team is short players, they will have to pick up new players to reach the required 10 players. 10. Following each games, coaches will select the player of the game from their own team. This player will be presented with a prize. 11. Regular season rules will be followed unless a change has been made in #1-9. 12. Tie-breakers will go by fewest points allowed in all games. The team(s) with the best defense will advance. 13. Please expect to pay at the door when you go to the games. Teams use this money to help cover the costs of the tournament or as a fundraiser. |
