| 1. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the game.
| 2. Introduce yourself to the coaches and ask if they have any questions/concerns.
| 3. Let coaches know that 5 minutes before starting you want the court cleared (balls away) and players ready (no chains, etc.)
| 4. Talk to scorekeeper(s) about expectations (arrow, bonus, stopping clock), check scoresheets, and have them put up the time until the court should be cleared.
| 5. Before the start of the game, make sure court is safe to use and you are familiar with all the lines (free-throw, out of bounds).
| 6. Before jump, check players for jewelery then verbally and physically indicate the direction the players will be shooting.
| 7. Try to put yourself in the best position to make a call (don't stand at half court all the time). This can be difficult with only one official but please try your best. When you make a call, blow your whistle loudly, then make the verbal (for players) and physical (for coaches) announcement.
| 8. When possible, explain calls to players quickly. "You can't stop him with your arm" "You moved your pivot foot"
| 9. It also helps to talk to players while the play is going on. "Get out of the key 34" "Back over half"
| 10. When the game is over, you may choose to check with the coaches to see if they have any questions or feedback.
| 11. Remember you are the boss on the court and in control of the game. Be confident!
| 12. Everyone makes mistakes. You can only call what you see.
| 13. Do not let players question your calls. Coaches should be given a chance to state their case in an appropriate manner. Remember you have technicals; don't be afraid to use them.
| 14. Any cursing or extremely physical play should result in a technical foul - no questions asked.
| 15. Please email or call me if you have to give a player or coach a technical foul. Let me know the name, team and circumstance under which the technical was given.
